Job Interview
  • Mul February 2012
I've an interview tomorrow for an assistant Games Promotions Officer position in a local GAA club.

I was just wondering if any of you guys out there could give me any tips of what to expect in the interview or any pointers that may sway things my way during it.

    Cheers!

    Cheers google80!

Have a fair bit done for it, I think it's just the nerves settling in.

Better to be over prepared than under prepared I guess.

    Thanks!

I would also add in knowing the basics about Long Term Athlete Development and the differing stages involved. IRFU have a good model there to look at.

A good understanding of the articles google80 mentioned will stand well to you but if I was on a board interviewing somebody who might be coaching my child I would agree with Barry and have a good think about LTAD and how you will cater for all children so that they as many of them as possible are still playing when they are adults. What will make you appear to be the stand out candidate? What are your aims? How would you implement them and what steps would you put in place first? Links with schools, the community, parents? Make the club look attractive to join? Make sure all the coaches are up to scratch, code of behaviour for coaches/players to adhere too so that all know what the clubs expectations are? Be realistic in your expectations of what you say you can achieve and what can be done as you are just making a whip for your own back if not. Be sure you can back up your targets by saying how you will go about it. I am delighted to hear you are nervous as that means you genuinely care. Best of luck with the interview.

Thanks Brendan, these are the sort of question I was expected to be asked but the two gentleman interviewing didn't seem to have questions prepared, asked questions off the top of their heads and didn't take notes, so I'm not expecting much after it unfortunetly.

Not a single question was asked about long term development and I attempted to bring it in but they seemed more interest if I was comfortable enough to u-15 hurling as well as u-8s football and if I'd be available to train teams on weeknights.

Huge thanks for the help lads, it was greatly appreciated and will be used again and again by myself!
